Travel RN Opportunity - Med Surg/Telemetry

Location: Denison, Iowa

Job Details

• Specialty: Med Surg/Tele
• Contract Length: 12 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
• Hours: Approximately 36 hours per week
• Schedule: Every Other Weekend required; self-scheduling with block schedules possible
• Patient Census: 21 beds, average census 8-10 patients
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:5, occasionally 1:6
• Orientation: Usually two shifts with a preceptor on unit

Unit & Patient Population

• Critical Access Hospital Medical Surgical unit
• Patient types include telemetry, cardiac drips (Cardizem), post-surgical, respiratory conditions, pediatrics (1-2 times per week, pediatric experience not required), wound care, orthopedic (hip, knee), occasional gunshot or urology cases
• Common equipment: Mindray telemetry monitors (must be able to read own strips)
• Must be able to set up and use Bi-Pap (though respiratory therapists and paramedics assist)
• Common drips: Cardizem, insulin, heparin

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 2 years in Med Surg/Telemetry specialty
• Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS (AHA)
  • PALS (AHA)
• Skills:

  • Ability to recognize basic cardiac rhythm strips
  • Charge nurse experience preferred (one charge nurse per shift)
• Other:

  • Must be located at least 50 miles from the facility (no local clinicians accepted)
  • Cerner experience preferred but training available for the right candidate
  • Critical Access Hospital (CAH) experience highly preferred
  • Professional scrubs of any color allowed

Additional Information

• Floating: OB nurses may float to Med Surg/Tele, but Med Surg/Tele nurses do not float to OB
• No call required
