Job Opportunity: Medical-Surgical Acute Care (MSAC) RN
Location: Peoria, Illinois

Unit & Patient Information
- Department: Medical Surgical Acute Care
- Beds: 18 (mostly private rooms, 1 semi-private)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Day shift: 4-5 patients per nurse
- Night shift: 5-6 patients per nurse
- Common Patient Types: General medical patients with various diagnoses
- Patients may require oxygen up to 6L NC, stable BiPAP/CPAP at night or PRN
- Telemetry monitored remotely by house-wide telemetry department; unit uses Phillips equipment
- Two Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) per shift, ratio approximately 9:1 when full
Requirements & Certifications
- Active Illinois RN license or application in process
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- ACLS preferred for Charge RN position
- Minimum 1 year hospital experience preferred
- Must be able to titrate drips (Heparin)
- Negative drug screen required (drug-free campus)
Shift & Scheduling
- 12-hour shifts: 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am
- Shift report at shift change (7am and 7pm)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights)
- Holiday rotation per policy
- No call or standby requirement
- Travel RNs are first to float to other units as needed
- Travelers may collaborate with unit leadership for scheduling preferences
Orientation & Support
- Orientation: One 12-hour shift with unit preceptor for travel RNs
- 24/7 Charge RN coverage (may have patient assignment)
- 24/7 House Supervisor coverage
- Hospitalist and Intensivist in-house 24/7
- Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
- Inpatient phlebotomy team available for blood draws
- RNs expected to attempt IV starts; unit resources available if unsuccessful
Additional Information
- Scrub color: Any color, staff must provide their own (no pediatric scrubs)
- Local placements accepted within 50-mile radius
- Call off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks with no penalty
- Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours
