    (Self-scheduling starting in July; flexible scheduling)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
• Holiday Requirement: Only if no permanent staff available
• Call/Standby: Call schedule applies to permanent staff only; travelers are not required to take call
• Floating: No floating outside the ER

Required Certifications

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• PALS (AHA)
• NIHSS
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) — Required
• ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) or PALS

Experience & Skills

• Must understand Emergency Severity Index (ESI) triage system (travelers typically do not perform triage but must understand it)
• Experience with community hospital emergency care preferred
• Knowledge of urgent care processes including door-to-EKG and door-to-troponin timing
• Ability to manage a variety of patient acuities, including behavioral health patients
• Must be a team player and able to stock rooms and manage boarded patients

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Belly pain
• Chest pain (CP)
• Altered mental status
• Behavioral health patients (high volume due to onsite behavioral unit)
• Low acuity patients managed by Physician Assistants in fast track area

Staffing & Support

• Charge nurse available 24/7 for emergencies and 1:1 assignments
• Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) and unit secretaries support the unit
• PCTs can perform straight sticks and Foley catheter insertion/removal
• House sitters available; PCTs may be pulled to sit if needed
• Respiratory Therapists handle ABGs, vents, treatments; ER staff perform EKGs
• Phlebotomy available 9a-2a; RNs may assist with blood draws during high volume
• No telemetry monitoring by RNs; no RN reading of cardiac strips

Orientation & Dress Code

• Unit-specific orientation: 2-3 shifts
• Scrub color: Black
• Scrub jackets allowed only if actual scrub jackets (no hoodies or sweatshirts)

Additional Notes

• The ER includes CT, diagnostic room, and stat lab on site
• May flex with C pod as a hold area depending on patient volume
• Level III trauma center with certified cath lab
• Emphasis on teamwork and flexibility within the unit
