Registered Nurse – Palliative Care

Location: Carmichael, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

Seeking an experienced Palliative Care RN for a travel contract in an inpatient hospital setting. The role involves managing a caseload of palliative care patients, including new and follow-up visits, and participating in interdisciplinary rounds.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily patient caseload: 5-6 new patients and 3-4 follow-up visits per day
• Develop patient daily lists and review patient charts
• Assess patient needs and open goals of care discussions
• Provide education on disease processes, advance directives, and POLSTs
• Conduct family meetings and support end-of-life discussions
• Attend daily interdisciplinary rounds
• Visit multiple hospital units as patients are served throughout the medical center

Work Schedule

• 8-hour day shifts (07:30-16:00 or 08:00-16:30)
• Up to every other weekend required
• Holiday rotation with core staff
• No call requirements
• No floating; however, the role requires visiting various units

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California
• Minimum 2 years of Palliative Care experience
• Palliative Care experience within the last year
• BLS certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Orientation & Team

• 3-4 day orientation with Palliative Care RN Coordinator and physicians
• Team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, RNs, and supplemental RNs
• Faith-based organization

Additional Information

• Candidates must provide 2 supervisory references: one within the past 12 months and one within the past 3 years
• Candidates cannot have been employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by certain affiliated health systems within the past year, though PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable
• The position covers leave of absence and requires immediate availability
