OR RN - Surgical Services (Boise, Idaho)

Assignment Details

  • Location: Boise, Idaho
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour shifts, typically 9 AM to 9 PM
  • Call Requirements:
    • Weeknight call: Typically 4 hours after scheduled shift; may cover up to 12 hours if night call team is unavailable (1-2 times per contract)
    • Weekend call: 12-hour in-house day shift, usually once per month
    • Holiday call: 12-hour in-house day shift, usually once per month
    • Call response time: 30 minutes
  • Scheduling: No block scheduling; scheduled based on department needs
  • Orientation: Approximately 1 week of general and unit-specific orientation

  • Unit: OR Ground Floor
  • Number of Suites: 17
  • Average Cases per Day: 65
  • EMR System: EPIC
  • Charge Nurse: Present 24/7
  • OR Techs: Available
  • Floating: Rare, only to nearby surgery centers or other local ORs; may float to CVOR (robotic thoracic) if experienced

Patient Population & Case Types

  • Pediatric (all specialties and trauma) and adult cases
  • Common cases include:
    • General surgery
    • DaVinci robotic procedures
    • Neurosurgery (spines and craniotomies)
    • Pediatric scoliosis
    • Orthopedics (total joints, trauma, sports medicine, spica casts for pediatrics)
    • Urology (complex cases including kidney, prostate, cystoscopy)
    • Oncology (hospital has attached oncology center)
    • ENT
    • Gynecology (including c-sections for accreta; L&D handles simple c-sections)
    • Bariatrics (robotic or laparoscopic Roux-en-Y, sleeves, gastric bypass)

Requirements & Preferences

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years OR nursing experience required
  • Preferred: 1-2 prior travel assignments
  • Skills: Broad experience across multiple case types preferred; candidates should identify their top 2 strengths/areas of expertise
  • Scrubbing: Not required for RNs
  • Dress Code: Hospital provides grey scrubs

Certifications

  • BLS required

Additional Notes

  • Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule for candidates’ permanent address
  • Call shifts are primarily volunteer-based, with occasional mandatory coverage based on vacation or sick calls
