Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivering safe and competent respiratory care as ordered by physicians, with emphasis on specialty areas including Emergency, Neonatal, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Critical Care. Key duties include monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, patient assessment, hemodynamic monitoring, blood work interpretation, and patient teaching/training.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver all respiratory care procedures according to department policies.
• Maintain accurate documentation of respiratory care activities.
• Verify physician orders related to respiratory care.
• Provide and receive accurate patient reports; update patient clinical status.
• Participate in department in-services, meetings, and patient care rounds.
• Communicate workload and patient acuity changes to supervisors.
• Enter daily services and charges into the department system.
• Demonstrate proficiency with respiratory care instruments and equipment; troubleshoot as needed.
• Perform airway management including bag/mask ventilation and assist with intubation.
• Perform arterial blood gas draws.
• Initiate, maintain, and monitor ventilator patients; interpret ventilator data to guide clinical changes.
• Assist in orientation and training of new employees and students.
• Comply with personal protective equipment and infection control standards.
• Reconcile patient charges and verify timely payroll submission.
• Provide care tailored to patient age groups (neonatal, pediatric, geriatric).
• Assess respiratory status and recommend appropriate therapeutic interventions.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement and regulatory compliance activities.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Colorado
• Minimum 1 year of respiratory therapist experience in a hospital setting within the last year
