Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) - Travel Position

Location: Washington, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Evenings (5 days a week, 8 hours per shift)
Weekly Hours: 36 hours guaranteed
Weekend Hours: None

Job Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician works under general supervision to perform decontamination, processing, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment. Responsibilities include cleaning instruments to ensure they are free of bioburden, inspecting, function testing, and assembling instruments for high-level disinfection or sterilization.

Responsibilities

• Perform initial evaluations including review of orders, diagnoses, and patient history as related to instrument processing.
• Clean, inspect, test, and assemble surgical instruments and equipment.
• Follow robust processes in decontamination, sterilization, and high-level disinfection.
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and document processes thoroughly.
• Support productivity standards and cost containment while maintaining quality.
• Maintain professional appearance and adhere to dress code (light blue scrubs required).
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment and observe universal precautions consistently.
• Participate in professional development and provide supervision for students during clinical rotations.
• Engage in process improvement activities to enhance outcomes and regulatory compliance.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician.
• Sterile Processing Technician experience within the last year.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Valid Driver's License.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Da Vinci surgical systems.
• Familiarity with general and orthopedic surgery instruments.

Work Environment

• Acute care hospital setting with 8 beds in the Sterilization unit.
• Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC.
• No patient ratios applicable.

Additional Information

• This facility is a Level III Trauma Center and Level II Stroke and STEMI Center.
• Recognized for high-quality care and safety standards.
• No weekend or call hours required for this position.

Dress Code

• Scrubs must be worn; light blue scrub color specified.
• Maintain clean, well-groomed appearance consistent with professional standards.
