Travel RN - Cardiac Medical ICU (CVICU)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for a Cardiac Medical ICU (CVICU) night shift position. The role involves providing direct patient care in a 22-bed unit with a patient ratio of 1:2. The unit cares for critically ill patients including post open-heart surgery, sepsis, respiratory failure, post cardiac arrest, and other complex medical conditions.


Schedule & Hours

  • Shift: Nights (19:00 - 07:30)
  • Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36 or 48 (must be specified on submission)
  • Weekend Hours: As required, typically every other weekend
  • Call Requirements: None

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience in an inpatient setting
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Experience & Skills

  • At least 2 years of Cardiac Medical ICU experience required
  • Preferred experience with medical ICU patients focusing on cardiac issues such as arrhythmias, STEMI, and post cardiac arrest care
  • Experience with advanced cardiac support equipment including Impella, IABP, Prismax CRRT, Zoll internal cooling device, and Arctic Sun
  • Familiarity with EPIC EMR system
  • Ability to float to other stepdown units as needed

  • Respiratory conditions (pneumonia, COVID, ARDS)
  • Post cardiac arrest
  • GI bleed
  • DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis)
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • Renal and liver failure
  • Pancreatitis
  • Overdose
  • Suicidal ideations
  • CIWA (Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment)

Physical & Working Conditions

  • Frequent standing and walking
  • Bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
  • Ability to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs., pinch up to 15 lbs., kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids
  • Flexible scheduling with possible shift and day changes based on patient care needs

Additional Information

  • Flu vaccination required for all travelers from November 1 to April 1 (no exceptions)
  • Dress code: Black scrubs only; no hats, non-facility jackets/sweatshirts, or AirPods allowed
