Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel Position

Location: Reno, Nevada
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Medical Surgical with Orthopedic/Neurosurgery focus
  • Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
  • Weekly Hours: 36 guaranteed
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Licenses: Nevada RN license required prior to start
  • Certifications: BLS (AHA) required
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2+ years Medical Surgical experience; Orthopedic experience strongly preferred
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Unit Description

  • 38-bed unit with all private rooms
  • Med Surg unit specializing in Orthopedics and Neurosurgery
  • Patient types include:
    • Total joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder, ankles)
    • Ortho-spine surgeries
    • Elective cervical, lumbar, thoracic surgeries
    • Fractures, traumas, limb preservation
    • Incision & drainage of wounds
    • Medical overflow patients including legal holds (SIs)
  • Staffing ratio:
    • RNs: 1:5-6
    • CNAs: 1:12-15

Additional Information

  • Travelers may be required to float within their competency level
  • May need to work major holidays and pick up one additional shift during the schedule period
  • Employer may call off shifts (full or partial) with 48 hours’ notice for low census during the 13-week contract
  • Schedule varies based on department needs and may include weekends, holidays, and some call shifts

Facility Environment

  • Extremely busy, fast-paced environment serving a 500-mile radius
  • Level II Trauma Center with Stroke accreditation
  • 800 in-patient bed hospital
  • Patient volume and pace comparable to a Level I trauma center

Position Purpose & Scope

  • Provide optimal patient care using nursing knowledge and skills
  • Accountable for individualized patient outcomes over entire episodes of care
  • Care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and their families/caregivers
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care
  • Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals
  • Requires continuous mental effort and sound clinical judgment
