Registered Nurse – Intermediate Care

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour variable shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM or 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 48 guaranteed hours; overtime billable after 48 hours/week

Unit & Patient Information

• Work on an 8-bed Intermediate Care observation unit (Short Stay Unit)
• Patient types include anemia, cellulitis, COPD, dehydration, pre/post-op urology and GI cases
• Manage drips such as Cardizem, Nitro, Insulin, Heparin
• Average patient stay up to 48 hours
• High volume of admissions and discharges
• Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
• Float to all inpatient units as needed, including Intermediate Care (IMC) and Critical Transitional Unit (CTU)

Required Qualifications

• Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Minimum 3 years of nursing experience in Intermediate Care or related units
• At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment required
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA or ARC) required
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification highly preferred
• EPIC charting experience required
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips; EKG exam required during compliance

Additional Requirements & Information

• Must live more than 50 miles from the facility (radius rule)
• Weekend and holiday coverage: every other weekend and every other holiday
• On-call/call-back: eligible for up to 36 hours of low census unbillable hours, typically in 4-hour increments; working partial shifts during low census is not considered on-call
• Scrub color: any color allowed
• Must be resilient, adaptable to change, able to work independently, and collaborate effectively with team and ancillary staff
• Positive attitude and flexibility required due to frequent shift changes
• Flu season policy: travelers declining flu and COVID vaccinations must wear a mask at all times per facility policy; non-compliance may result in corrective action

Orientation & Scheduling Notes

• Guaranteed hours per week except during holidays when the unit is closed
• GSA (Government Service Administration) hours are not guaranteed during orientation week
