Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical Float Pool
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Long Term
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Description
The Medical-Surgical Float Pool nurse provides comprehensive patient care across multiple medical-surgical units. This role requires adaptability to varying patient populations and unit workflows. Nurses are expected to function independently, demonstrate strong clinical judgment, and uphold all hospital policies and safety standards.
Units Covered
- All inpatient Medical-Surgical units
- Step down units
- Emergency Department (for medical-surgical holds)
Orientation
- Initial orientation at main campus on start date
- Additional short orientation (2-3 hours) at Women and Families unit at a later time
Schedule Requirements
- Every other weekend required
- No holiday shifts for agency staff
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio
- Approximately 1:4 on standard Medical-Surgical units (may vary based on unit acuity and staffing)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Pennsylvania
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical / Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification
- NIHSS certification
- Strong proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
- Ability to float between multiple units comfortably
- Compliance with all hospital policies including attendance, documentation standards, and medication safety protocols
