Surgical Assistant Cardiothoracic Surgery Experience Required

Overview

• Location: Cleveland, Ohio
• Employment type: LTA
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Role focus: Cardiac First Assist supporting cardiac surgical procedures and regional call for the Cardiac Surgery program, including transplant call coverage.

Role Details

• Works under the direction and supervision of the attending physician.
• Provides intraoperative support including exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other technical functions.
• Performs preoperative and postoperative duties.
• May 1st and/or 2nd assist cardiac surgical procedures.
• Requires ability to travel in cars, ambulances, planes, and helicopters for call coverage.

Unit / Service Line

• Cardiac Surgery program
• Transplant call coverage, both donor and recipient

Required Qualifications

• Surgical Assistant experience.
• First Assist Technician experience within the last year.
• 2 years of experience as a First Assist Technician.
• Less than 1 year of experience taking Second Call for the Cardiac service line.
• BLS issued by the American Heart Association.
• Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

• National certification from NBSTSA.
• National certification from NCCSA.
• National certification from ABSA.

Onboarding / Compliance Requirements

• License/certificate verification.
• MMR immunity or acceptable booster/clearance documentation.
• Fit test completed within 1 year prior to start.
• Hepatitis B documentation.
• Varicella immunity or acceptable booster/clearance documentation.
• Tdap vaccination within the last 10 years.
• I-9 attestation.
• Ohio fingerprints / background screening requirements.
• Education verification.
• Employment verification within 5 years.
• Skills checklist.
• Competency exam.
• Core competencies.
• Physical/health statement showing ability to work without restrictions.
• Provider privileges letter.
• Influenza vaccine documentation or approved declination/accommodation, when applicable.
• TB testing within the last 6 months.

• Criminal background check results.
• OIG search.
