Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)

Unit and Assignment

• 23 OR's and 1 procedure rooms
• Elective and emergency surgeries for adult and pediatric patients, including a variety of service-specific specialties

Required Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
• Comfort in orthopedic surgery
• Comfort in general surgery
• Comfort in urology (GU) surgery
• Comfort in gynecologic (GYN) surgery
• Comfort in plastic surgery
• Comfort in ENT surgery
• Experience with Epic

Required as Specified by Unit or Profession

• ACLS, BLS, and PALS: AHA only; Provider, Instructor, or RQI accepted
• NRP, TNCC, and EFM
• Competency exam as required by profession/specialty, including a medication/pharmacology competency exam

Background Checks

• 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start, including SSN trace, national criminal and sex offender searches, education verification, and work eligibility. International search required if the candidate has lived outside the US. Convictions are reviewed by facility HR. Not renewed annually.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
• NYS Sex Offender Registry search within 30 days of start
• NYS Medicaid Exclusion List check within 30 days of start, then monthly
• Education verification from an in-house or third-party source (hard-copy degrees or transcripts not accepted). Transcripts or foreign education evaluation are needed only if no verification is on file.

Health Requirements

Health requirements and lab work must be completed within 5 days of signing the contract.

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually. If the candidate fails, proof of the failed test is accepted and they will wear a PAPR onsite.
• TB: negative Qgold, T-spot, or 2-step PPD within 1 year of start. If positive, proof of the positive result, a negative chest X-ray within 10 years of start, and an annual TB questionnaire are required.
• Rubeola, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and varicella: positive titer or vaccination series (declination accepted for hepatitis B; history of varicella with provider documentation accepted)
• Drug screen within 30 days of start, not required annually. Panel includes amphetamines (including methamphetamines), cocaine, ecstasy, fentanyl, heroin, and opiates (including morphine and codeine).
• Flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season. Deadline for documentation is 12/3. Flu receipts are not accepted.
• Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start, not required annually
• Color blindness test (online) required for all candidates, not annually

• Copy of COVID vaccination (preferred, not required)

Onboarding and Other Requirements

• Clear, passport-style photo with a solid background for the badge
• Facility modules to complete; login details are sent 2 weeks before start
• Parking pass form completed during orientation
• Pre-employment compliance and health records attestations, plus a new hire form
• For Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Home Health Aide, or LTC units only, if requested by the facility: fingerprinting, DOH-102 form, and disciplinary action search
