Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Level I Trauma Center
Unit: Cardiac ICU (CTICU)


Job Details

  • Schedule: 3x12 hour shifts only
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Ratios: Average 1:2 (days and nights)
  • Experience Required:
    • Minimum 3 years of Cardiac ICU experience (required)
    • At least 1 year of Level 1 Trauma Center experience
    • Proficiency with Swan-Ganz monitoring
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted if they have Cardio Thoracic ICU and/or critical care experience
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Origin (RTO) Restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes

Required Certifications

  • NIH Stroke Certification (unless working in Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric units, or NICU)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

Additional Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within 30 days of start
  • Education verification and foreign equivalency evaluation if internationally educated
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (must score 85%) within 12 months of start
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting on or after 8/2/2024)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ICU and telemetry units)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • Immunizations and health documents including:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (highly preferred for certain specialties)
    • Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella titers or vaccinations
    • Hepatitis B status or declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (required during flu season)
    • COVID vaccination preferred

  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (for most clinical roles except some specialties)
  • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
  • eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
  • Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap >6 months or updated module)
  • EPIC Testing (optional but highly encouraged for those with Epic experience)

Employment History & Verification

  • 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days required
  • Verification of employment for last 7 years required (attestations not accepted)
  • Skills checklist required within 12 months of start
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for certain tech and specialty roles
