Registered Nurse - Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) - Nights

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Job Details

• Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (36 hours/week), every other weekend
• On-call: None
• Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:2
• Specialty: Medical ICU
• Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of Medical ICU experience (highest requirement)
• Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required

• Experience with telemetry

  • Multisystem Organ Failure
  • Respiratory Failure
  • COVID
  • Sepsis
  • Post-Cardiac Arrest
  • Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
  • Liver Failure
  • Renal Failure

Certifications Required

• BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• All certifications must be current and from AHA-approved providers

System & Equipment Knowledge

• EPIC documentation system experience required
• Continuous Glucose Monitoring for Hyperglycemia
• Externalized IV Pumps for COVID+ patients
• Equipment:

  • NxStage CRRT
  • Alaris IV Pump
  • GE Cardiac Monitor
  • GE Ventilator
  • Boom Lift in each patient room

Competency Exams

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
• Unit-Specific Competency Exam
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required within 1 year of start and updated annually)

Health & Background Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start
• FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption possible)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
• COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Summary

This is a travel Registered Nurse position in the Medical ICU for night shifts in Columbus, Ohio. Candidates must have at least 2 years of Medical ICU experience and be proficient with EPIC and critical care equipment. Required certifications include BCLS, ACLS, and NIHSS. The role demands strong clinical skills in managing complex ICU patients with multisystem organ failure and respiratory issues.
