Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Oncology/Hematology Charge Nurse)
Location: Irvine, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Lead daily operations on a specialized oncology/hematology unit focused on blood disorders (e.g., leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma) and various cancers.
- Balance patient care with leadership duties including staffing, patient flow, managing complex treatments (chemotherapy, blood transfusions, CAR T-cell therapy).
- Mentor staff, ensure safety, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team for optimal patient care.
- Patient population includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
- Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each, float required, weekend rotation required.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 3 years oncology experience (hematology preferred).
- Minimum 3 years charge nurse experience.
- Inpatient oncology experience and administration of chemotherapy required.
- EPIC electronic medical record experience required.
- Will accept first-time travelers if experience requirements are met.
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- CHEMO certification
- Valid state nursing license
Preferred Skills/Experience
- Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT)
- Outpatient oncology
- Active Immunotherapy (specific and non-specific)
- Administration of interferons, interleukins, cytotoxic therapy
- Management of side effects and complications such as graft rejection, graft-versus-host disease, stem cell therapies
- Experience with a wide range of cancers (bladder, brain, breast, colorectal, kidney, leukemia, liver, lung, lymphoma, melanoma, multiple myeloma, ovarian, pancreatic, prostate)
- Chemotherapy handling: continuous infusion, IV push, oral administration, cytotoxic spill management
- Monitoring chemotherapy and recognizing abnormal lab values
- IV therapy and infusion management, including ports, central lines, PICC lines
- Administration of blood products, coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals, antibiotics, antiemetics, corticosteroids, hormonal therapy, Neupogen
- Management of oncologic emergencies (e.g., tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, hemorrhage, sepsis, spinal cord compression)
- Pain management including PCA pumps, IV push narcotics, transdermal patches
- Care coordination and management of complex patient needs (chest tubes, colostomy, Foley catheters, isolation and neutropenic precautions, phlebotomy, telemetry, tracheostomy, wound care, psychosocial and hospice care)
Orientation
- 36 hours of orientation provided
Prior Travel Experience
- Prior travel experience not required; first-time travelers are accepted if experience requirements are met.
