Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU/MS Float

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Position Overview

• Float position covering all PCU (Progressive Care Unit) and MS (Medical-Surgical) units
• Must be comfortable working across multiple units
• Floating may occur 2-3 times per shift (every 4 hours based on staffing needs)

Schedule & Contract Length

• Typical shift: 3x12 hour shifts, 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM
• Option for 4x12 hour shifts available upon request
• Contract length: 13 weeks (can range from 13 to 52 weeks by request)
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
• Holiday requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract

Required Experience & Skills

• EPIC charting experience required
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
• Central line care, trach management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, chest tubes)
• Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, cardiac drip titration
• Emergency response participation (Rapid Response/Code teams)
• Management of PCA and heparin protocols, IV insulin administration
• Experience with endocrine/metabolic conditions
• Telemetry and stepdown-level care (PCU/DOU/IMC) with cardiovascular experience in pre/post cardiac cath settings

Unit Details

• PCU nurse-to-patient ratio: 5:1
• MS nurse-to-patient ratio: 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1)

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)

Licensing & Eligibility

• Pending license accepted if holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
• Otherwise, must have an active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license
• First-time travelers accepted
• Local candidates accepted (radius rule applies)

Additional Requirements

• Must work per facility call-off policy (allowed 1 call-off shift per 2 weeks)
• Must work one holiday per contract
• All scheduling requests (RTO, block, special) must be submitted upfront

Documentation & Compliance (Summary)

• I9 or attestation required
• Valid Driver’s License/State ID with address within 100 miles of facility required
• Background check covering 7 years of history required (not annually unless break in assignments)
• E-Verify or attestation required
• Education verification and transcript/diploma required
• Physical exam within 1 year, free from communicable diseases
• Fit test within 1 year, updated annually
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
• Drug screen (10 panel) within 30 days of start
• Immunizations or titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Flu vaccination or declination form required during flu season
• 2 clinical references required
• Skills checklist updated annually

This position is ideal for RNs with strong telemetry and progressive care experience who are flexible and comfortable floating across PCU and Medical-Surgical units in a Level I Trauma Center environment.
