Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - IR PACU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Position Overview

  • Role: IR PACU Nurse with rotating start times (6 AM, 7 AM, 8 AM)
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (shift times vary based on unit needs)
  • Late stays: 3-4 required per 6 weeks
  • Patient population includes pediatric patients
  • Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year ICU experience
  • IR PACU experience with phase 1 recovery required
  • Experience caring for pediatric patients required

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) — must be willing to obtain prior to start if not currently held
  • Additional certifications that may be required depending on unit specifics:
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) for L&D
    • CHEMO (Chemotherapy certification)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
    • Certification for First Assist RNs (if applicable)
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required for ICU, IR, PACU, and other critical care units

Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (pediatric medication exam for pediatric RNs)
  • Color Blind Testing Online
  • Unit Specific Competency Exams (may require multiple exams)
  • Conscious Sedation Competency Exam
  • RN Math Ability Competency Exam (basic or advanced)
  • Core Parts I, II, and III (annual updates required)

Background and Health Requirements

  • Background checks including county and national criminal, sex offender, FACIS III, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG exclusions
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, or PA confirming good health and ability to perform job duties
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types accepted)
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (annual renewal)
    • TB questionnaire (annual if positive TB history)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccinations with boosters if needed)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination with annual renewal)
    • Varicella (positive titer or vaccinations with boosters if needed)
    • Drug testing within 1 year, updated annually (specific drug panels required)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation (required year-round with exemptions accepted)
    • COVID vaccination series or medical/religious exemption required; booster preferred but not required

History and Documentation

  • Two professional references verified within 6 months of start (preferably manager or supervisor)
  • Employment application with explanation for any gaps longer than 30 days
  • Employment verification for the past 7 years, completed 8 business days prior to start
  • Skills checklists updated annually and valid through contract duration
  • Various facility-specific documents and policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start (e.g., confidentiality, acceptable use, electronic communications, password policy)
