Registered Nurse - Oncology
Location: Lafayette, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend
- Patient Population: Adults & geriatrics
- Average Daily Census: 14 patients
- Rooms: 16
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:6
- Floating: Agency staff floated first, typically to similar or lower acuity floors
- Scrub Color: Royal blue
- Unit may assign you to an "Emergency Team" during events, requiring you to stay until the event passes or be part of a relief team
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Louisiana
- Minimum 2 years of Oncology experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Additional Requirements
- Current/valid Driver’s License or government photo ID (color copy)
- Background checks including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and Sex Offender Search (all updated within 30 days of start)
- Education verification of highest level completed
- NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start
- Competency exam specific to specialty, completed within 1 year prior to start, minimum 80% score, updated annually
- Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
- Fit mask testing within 1 year of start (N95 masks accepted); onsite fit testing available if needed
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if applicable)
- TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months, with follow-up for positives
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella – positive IGG titer or completed vaccine series
- Hepatitis B – positive surface antibody, completed vaccine series, or booster after negative titer; declination allowed with signed form
- Varicella – positive IGG titer, completed vaccine series, or booster after negative titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30)
- Photo for badge: full color, passport-style, taken within last 6 months
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on unit (not required for ICU)

- Candidates must be comfortable with potential emergency event assignments requiring extended presence or relief duties as assigned by unit management.
- All certifications must be current or renewed prior to start date if expiring within 30 days.
- Skills checklist and employment application required, including 7 years of employment history and explanation for any gaps.
