Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Float Nurse

Location: Huntington, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: Cannot start before April 19th (no March starts accepted)


Facility Overview

  • Short Term Acute Care facility
  • Major Teaching Hospital, Level II Trauma Center
  • Total Staffed Beds: 330
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Scrub color: Black scrubs (or facility T-shirt); surgery scrubs provided when reporting to Surgery
  • Free parking available for travelers

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in West Virginia
  • Minimum of 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
  • Experience as a Medical Surgical Float nurse
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • TB screening (QGold or T-Spot within 6 months, updated annually; chest X-ray if history of positive TB)
    • Hepatitis B (titer and vaccination series or declination form)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - positive titers or vaccination documentation
    • Varicella - positive titer or vaccination with boosters if needed
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years
    • Hepatitis A antibody within 6 months
    • Hepatitis C antibody within 6 months (with follow-up testing if positive)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine required annually (medical or religious exemptions must be approved)
    • COVID-19 seasonal vaccine required; initial series preferred (declination form required if opting out)
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (must include confirmation values for a comprehensive panel)
  • Onsite N95 fit testing required (male candidates must be clean-shaven)

Competencies and Documentation

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Competency exams and core training modules required (may be completed online prior to start)
  • Facility-specific orientation and annual education must be reviewed and attestation completed prior to start
  • Confidentiality agreement and IT access agreement must be completed before starting
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance evaluations required if previously worked with the facility for over 1 year
  • Skills checklist must be updated annually for applicable units

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be able to comply with all facility-specific policies and complete required documentation prior to or shortly after start date.
  • Religious and medical exemptions for vaccines require prior approval.
  • Candidates must create an account for timekeeping prior to start.

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical Float RNs who meet the above qualifications and are available to start after April 19th for a 13-week travel assignment in West Virginia.
