Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Operating Room (OR)
  • Shift: 5x8 hour shifts, 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM
  • Call Requirements: One 12-hour shift per month on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday), either 7 AM - 7 PM or 7 PM - 7 AM
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
  • Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 5 days off with no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
  • Floating: Mandatory float facility; all staff must float within their scope as needed
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Orthopedics, Orthopedic Trauma, Vascular Surgery, and Urology
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • Strong scrub and circulate skills
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Additional Requirements and Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) required annually for patient-facing staff
  • Immunizations and health documentation required:
    • Tdap within 10 years or signed declination
    • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct-Apr)
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests required within 12 months of start
  • Mandatory annual skills checklist and application completion
  • Facility-specific rules of behavior and forms must be completed

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for an experienced Operating Room RN with Level 1 Trauma experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center. The role requires strong OR skills, flexibility to float, weekend and call coverage, and compliance with extensive health and background requirements. Local candidates within 75 miles are preferred.
