Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Oncology Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Shift: Nights, either 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts (1845-0715)
  • Average Daily Census: 24 patients (24 rooms/beds)
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Floating: May float within scope as needed
  • Block Schedule: Schedule requests can be discussed with manager
  • Local Candidates: Accepted with no radius restrictions
  • On-call: Not required

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience within the last year
  • Experience in administration of chemotherapy, including:
    • Body fluid handling post chemotherapy
    • Continuous infusion of chemotherapy
    • IV push administration of chemotherapy
    • Management and disposal of cytotoxic spills
    • Monitoring chemotherapy and recognizing/communicating abnormal lab values
  • Experience in accessing ports and care/management of ports
  • Experience in administration of coagulation factors
  • Experience in blood and blood product administration
  • Experience in central line blood draws

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid/current US Driver’s License or State ID
  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years (including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, FACIS Level 3)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks within 30 days prior to start
  • Education verification (degree or transcript)
  • Fingerprinting through Illinois Health Care Worker Registry (if no IL license)
  • Competency exam required for clinical candidates
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
  • Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • References: 2 professional references required
  • Skills checklist required for clinical candidates
  • State-specific criminal and offender registry checks required within 30 days of start

Additional Notes

  • No chemotherapy or oncology certification required to apply, but chemo skills and experience are mandatory
  • Guaranteed hours with some allowance for client call-offs
  • Scrub color: Any solid color

This position is ideal for an Oncology RN with at least 1 year of experience who is comfortable working night shifts in a Level I trauma, Magnet recognized acute care hospital. Prior travel experience is not required, and first-time travelers are accepted.
