Job Summary
- Work in a secure corrections health unit environment.
- Float between various Oncology Medical-Surgical (MS) and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) telemetry units.
- Shifts may include days, nights, or a rotating schedule.
- Oncology experience preferred but not required.
- EPIC charting experience is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care on Oncology MS and PCU Telemetry units.
- Ensure staff safety in a locked corrections unit with controlled access.
- Manage patient care for oncology and non-oncology diagnoses including solid tumors, hematology, surgical procedures, COPD, sepsis, pneumonia, and abnormal labs.
- Interpret and manage dysrhythmias and telemetry monitoring.
- Administer IV insulin protocols, feeding tube care, hemodialysis management, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care.
- Manage respiratory support including CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula, oxygen therapy, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy care.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, respiratory services, social services, and rapid response teams.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Minimum of 1 year of Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Work Environment
- Locked corrections unit with access controlled by corrections officers.
- Nurse to patient ratio: 1:3 in PCU, 1:4-5 in MS.
- Corrections officer to inmate ratio: 1:2.
- Shifts include day, night, or rotating schedules with weekend shifts varying by unit needs.
Certifications & Compliance Requirements
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (annual renewal required)
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, FBI and BCI fingerprinting
- Education accreditation verification
- Drug screening (10-panel) within 3 months of start
- Immunizations and health documents including:
- Physical exam within 1 year
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate (updated annually)
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared to work in a corrections environment with strict security protocols.
- Shift assignments are reviewed every 4 weeks but are subject to change based on staffing needs.
- Candidates must provide 2 professional references, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
- Orientation and unit-specific competency exams are required.
- Fingerprinting must be completed using specific state codes and within 1 year of start date.
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are not finalized before start.
