Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)

Location: Utica, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 12:30 PM – 11:30 PM (4 days per week, 10 hours per day)
Call: Yes, with one weekend per month required

Job Description

• Certified OR Tech needed for Surgical Services with experience in neuro, robotics, ortho, and trauma cases.
• Charting system used: EPIC.
• Local radius requirement: within 75 miles.

Required Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with at least 2 years of experience, including experience within the last year.
• Certification through NBSTSA or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Must be able to work the specified shift and call schedule.

Certifications & Training Requirements

• BLS (AHA strongly preferred; ARC accepted initially but must update to AHA).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA strongly preferred.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – AHA strongly preferred.
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required for ER staff (if applicable).
• National Tech Certification as applicable.
• NY Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (annual requirement).
• Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score).
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (if assigned to ICU, PCU, ER, or similar units).
• Color Blind Testing (required prior to start).

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types required).
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (PPD, Quantiferon Gold accepted; Tspot not accepted).
• Immunizations or positive titers required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
  • Varicella (titer, vaccine, or documented history)
• 9 Panel Drug Screen within 1 year of start.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (September 1 – March 31).
• Pneumonia vaccination or declination required.

Documentation & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
• Emergency Contact Form (required prior to start).
• Background checks including 7-year search, SS trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG (updated annually).
• Education verification.
• Facility-specific documents including photo for badge, job description acknowledgment, welcome packet acknowledgment, and completion of online learning modules prior to first shift.
• References:

  • 2 professional references for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (within 3 years).
  • 1 professional reference for per diem non-acute care roles.
