NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: San Diego, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, variable or straight nights (7 PM - 7 AM or 7 AM - 7 PM)
- Hours per week: 36
- Weekend Requirement: Must be available to work weekends with full scheduling flexibility
- Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs, including PICU & CVICU and NICU satellite campuses
- Transportation: Must have own transportation; mileage reimbursed for travel to satellite campuses
- Scrub Color: Any color
- Charting System: Epic
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Minimum 2 years of recent NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Experience with oscillator and conventional ventilators
- Experience with CPAP and nasal cannula specialty gases
- Skilled in PICC lines, Broviacs, UAC/UVC/PAL lines
- Experience with tracheostomies, ostomies, and G-tubes
- Comfortable with pre-operative and post-operative care
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid photo ID (front and back) presented on first day
- Background checks within 30 days of start, including criminal, sex offender, national databases, and education verification
- Education verification with transcripts/diploma or third-party verification required
- Professional license verification within 30 days of start
- NPI number provided if available
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, stating good health without restrictions
- Fit test for N95 masks within 1 year of start
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test (Qgold/Tspot within 6 months or two negative PPDs)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
- Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
- Hepatitis B series or titer (titer preferred)
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (declinations not accepted)
- Negative non-THC 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start
- Medication calculation exam (100% pass required) prior to start
- Pediatric pharmacology competency exam with 100% score in pharm section and 80% overall required
- Competency exams with minimum 80% score, updated annually
- Pass/fail medication test with 100% passing score required (two attempts allowed)
- Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing required for all RNs (except case managers)
References & Employment History
- Two supervisory references verified within 1 year of start from clinical leadership (director, supervisor, or manager)
- Employment application covering full 7 years with explanations for gaps over 6 months required
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Badge photo meeting specific criteria (neck up, plain background, recent within 3 months, JPEG format) submitted prior to start
- Completion and signing of various facility forms including:
- HIPAA & PHI form
- Meal waiver form
- Professional accountability expectations
- Code of conduct
- Confidentiality agreement
- Traveler policy acknowledgment
- Fingernail hygiene policy
- Vehicle registration form (must bring printed copy or complete onsite)
- Must sign Critical Care Float or Acute Care Float traveler expectations if applicable
Additional Notes
- Locals are not accepted for this position
- No block scheduling accommodations
- Maximum 6 days return to office (RTO) restriction
- Hours guaranteed after call-off policy is met
- No on-call requirement
This position is ideal for experienced NICU RNs with strong Level 4 experience who are flexible with floating and weekend shifts, and who meet the comprehensive credentialing and compliance requirements.
