Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical/Telemetry Unit

Unit Description
- Medical Surgical/Solid Organ Transplant Unit (36 beds)
- Provides medical surgical, telemetry, and progressive care to adult pre- and post-liver, kidney, pancreas, intestinal transplant, and intestinal rehabilitation patients
- Adolescent patients (age 15+) are cared for by core staff only
- Patient-to-nurse ratios: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights (rare)
- Drip infusions required on all floors
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics; LPNs assigned on some floors
- Floating required frequently, including to multiple units and potentially to a nearby campus
Schedule
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri night/Sat night)
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during contract
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska (pending license accepted if in hand before start; otherwise booked six weeks out)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital
- EPIC electronic charting experience required
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIH Stroke Certification and CPI preferred
- First-time travel nurses not accepted unless 2 years experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
- Must be prepared to float within scope to meet staffing needs
- Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
Facility Requirements & Policies
- 100% nicotine-free facility
- Mandatory scrubs: Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
- Parking permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply
- Up to two weeks of time off (RTO) permitted; requests must be submitted with application and approved by manager
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background checks, drug screening, and various health and competency verifications required prior to start and updated annually as applicable
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
- Fit mask test annually (specific mask models required)
- Immunizations and titers required: Tdap, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Annual TB testing or chest x-ray if history positive
- Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually
- Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
- COVID vaccine preferred; exemptions accepted
Additional Notes
- Travelers are first to float to meet staffing needs
- RTO blackout dates: June 11–22, 2026 (due to College World Series)
- Two professional references required from work within past 2 years
- Annual skills checklist required
- Eye exam required only for OR staff (not applicable here)
