Job Opportunity: Dialysis Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Evening (4x10 hours), 1:30 PM – 12:00 AM
Hours per Week: 40


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in peritoneal dialysis in an outpatient setting.
  • Educate and train patients on peritoneal dialysis (experience within last 3 years required).
  • On-call duties required:
    • 12-hour on-call shift every other Sunday.
    • 3-hour on-call shift approximately twice weekly after regular shift.
  • Facility is a mandatory float environment.
  • Return to Office (RTO) policy:
    • Maximum 5 days off with no more than 2 consecutive days.
    • No days off before or after holidays.
    • No days off on weekends.
  • Scrubs may be any color (not provided).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 2 years of dialysis experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Experience in an outpatient setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD.
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year of start, updated annually. Medical or religious exemptions require approval for onsite PAPR use.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 12 months of start.
  • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months of start, updated annually. PPD tests no longer accepted as of 12/15/2025.
  • Required immunizations or positive titers for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination (Hep B titer only for dialysis RN).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – May 4). Declinations not accepted by facility.

Background and Compliance

  • Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually. Includes SSN trace, nationwide and state checks. Illinois fingerprinting required if indicated.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually. Marijuana testing not required.
  • Illinois Healthcare Worker Registry search not required for RNs.
  • Must complete facility-specific forms and rules of behavior.

  • References: Follow state requirements for RNs.
  • Complete employment application/resume required.
  • Facility is a mandatory float environment.
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions apply as noted above.

This position is ideal for experienced dialysis RNs with outpatient peritoneal dialysis expertise who are comfortable with on-call responsibilities and floating within the facility.
