Registered Nurse – PCU (Progressive Care Unit)

Location: Wichita Falls, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Immediate start, no later than July 27
• Work on a unit with a heavy cardiac and cerebrovascular accident (CVA) patient population
• Must manage cardiac drips, heparin, nitroglycerin, and similar medications
• Shift options: Day shift, either 3 or 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
• 84 hours biweekly with a 72-hour guarantee

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience (cardiac specialty experience strongly preferred)
• Prior travel nursing experience is required
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system is strongly preferred

Required Licenses & Certifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license for Texas
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC accepted (Instructor, Provider, or RQI)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC accepted (Instructor, Provider, or RQI)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – as applicable, AHA or ARC accepted
• Other certifications (NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, ENPC, NIH Stroke Certification) as applicable per facility requirements

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• E-Verify or Attestation
• Background check within 1 year of start, including SS trace, county searches (7 years), nationwide, and sex offender registry
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
• State license verification within 30 days of start
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
• Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment (annual update)
• Facility-specific documents and acknowledgments as required prior to start
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
• Immunizations and health screenings (must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing):

  • TDAP vaccine within 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD, Q Gold, or TSpot within 1 year; chest X-ray within 5 years if positive PPD)
  • Rubeola (Measles): 2 vaccines or positive titer (exempt if born before 1957)
  • Mumps: 2 vaccines or positive titer (exempt if born before 1957)
  • Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (exempt if born before 1957)
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series of 3, or declination
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines, positive titer, or history of chickenpox
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (10/1–5/31) or facility-specific medical/religious exemption
  • COVID-19 vaccination documentation
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start (instant acceptable)
• Drug testing plan must be in place within 72 hours of contract signing

• Two professional references within 3 years of start

Additional Notes

• All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of application or before accepting the offer
• This position requires strong cardiac nursing skills and the ability to manage complex cardiac medications and drips
• Compliance with all facility-specific policies and documentation is mandatory prior to start

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Texas
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• ACLS certification
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Prior travel nursing experience
