Registered Nurse (RN) – Acute Care

Location: Albany, Georgia
Contract Length: 17 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), 48 hours per week
Schedule: Every other weekend, rotating with permanent staff


Unit & Patient Details

  • 14 beds on unit
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6 for both day and night shifts
  • Patient population includes diabetic, CHF, COPD, GI bleed, renal failure, dialysis patients (dialysis nurse available), post-surgical overflow, amputations, debridements, wound care, DVTs, ETOH, and psych (future hospice anticipated)
  • Medications commonly used: Lasix, Bumex, Heparin
  • CPAP use at night for BiPAP patients
  • Nurses generally do not read cardiac strips and do not take patient assignments unless needed
  • CNA ratio generally 1:12, with pull for 1:1 and sitters as needed

Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience
  • Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment
  • Experience required in a larger hospital with high acuity, high turnover, and fast pace (no Critical Access Hospital experience)
  • Must demonstrate commitment to patient satisfaction, quality of care, and patient safety

Certifications & Licenses

  • Current RN license required
  • BLS (AHA) certification required
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
  • ACLS preferred but not mandatory

Work Environment & Policies

  • Strict 75-mile radius rule for travel nurse’s residence
  • Primary care nursing model
  • No bags allowed at nurse’s station; personal locker with lock recommended
  • Strict attendance policy; candidates will be asked about missed shifts on last contract
  • Nail policy: Only polished nails allowed; no artificial or Shellac nails due to infection control concerns (CLABSI rates)
  • Uniform: Caribbean Blue top and bottom OR White top with Caribbean Blue bottom OR all white top and bottom

Additional Notes

  • Shift report time: 6:45 PM – 7:15 PM
  • Nurses may be assigned to acute care and cardiology units, including emergency care for acute care patient holds
  • CNA support available but may be pulled for 1:1 sitter duties
  • Night shift only for BiPAP patients on CPAP machines
