Surgical Tech - Operating Room (OR Tech)

Location: Glendale, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

Seeking an experienced Operating Room (OR) Tech with robotics experience for a travel assignment. The role involves managing robotic arms and assisting with sutures, mesh, flushing, etc., primarily during call hours. The Surgical Tech (ST) manages the robot alongside the surgeon (no assistant role).

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of OR Tech experience
• Active BLS (AHA) certification
• Robotics experience is mandatory, specifically in:

  • Orthopedics (required)
  • Urology (required during call hours)
  • Endoscopy, Gynecology, General Surgery (preferred)
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification

Work Environment & Details

• Unit: OR/Pre/Post-Op
• OR beds: 4; PACU beds: 5; Phase 2 beds: 12 (shared with ED)
• Common cases: Bariatric, Pediatrics, Endoscopy, some ICU-level patients
• EMR systems: Cerner and Surginet
• Charge Nurse coverage: Yes, separate for OR and PACU
• Nurse aides include CSTs and sterile processing techs
• Telemetry system: Phillips
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
• Pharmacy hours: 6am-5pm, nights covered via main campus
• Shifts: Day shift, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week
• Weekend call: Saturday and Sunday call every 5-6 weeks (one call day per week)
• Orientation: 2 days floor-specific orientation
• Floating: May float to main OR campus and another nearby facility
• Scrub color provided
• Typical turnaround time for Endoscopy cases: 2 to 18 minutes
• Workdays: 8-hour days plus call

Additional Notes

• Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule (no local rates)
• Pre-screening required before manager approval
• Call is required, with significant robotics cases during call hours
