Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) – Medsurg

Unit Information

• Bed Count: 20 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Falls, CHF, bowel obstruction, A-fib, Swingbed patients, and more
• Critical Access Hospital environment – team-oriented, flexible, and collaborative

Required Certifications

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• PALS (AHA)
• NIHSS
• TNCC (if ER nurse)

Required Skills and Experience

• Confident in assessments, infusion pumps, medication administration
• Strong social skills, teamwork, and reliability
• ER experience preferred but not required
• First-time travelers are welcome
• Experience in critical access facilities is appreciated
• Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 1+ year RN experience in Medsurg or related area

Clinical Responsibilities

• RNs are required to titrate drips (e.g., Insulin, Heparin, Levophed) and manage set rate drips (e.g., Amiodarone)
• Nurses read and document cardiac monitor strips (Mindray Monitors) each shift; no tele/monitor techs on unit
• Manage respiratory equipment including Hamilton C1 ventilator with CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen; ventilated patients are not kept on unit
• Float to ER as needed (not first to float, but flexibility appreciated)

Staffing and Scheduling

• Shifts: 7a-7p or 7p-7a
• Scheduling: Manager scheduled with block scheduling available depending on staffing needs
• Schedule posted 6 weeks in advance
• Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend or more if desired
• Holiday Requirement: Desired participation in holiday rotation
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Charge nurse available 24/7 but does not take patient assignments; no house supervisor on unit

Support Staff

• CNAs and PCTs assist with vital signs, charting, I&Os, and ADLs

Orientation

• Unit-specific orientation available, typically 3-6 shifts depending on staff availability

Summary

This Medsurg RN role in a small, 20-bed critical access hospital offers a collaborative environment where nurses wear many hats and flexibility is valued. The position requires strong clinical skills, including drip titration and respiratory management, with a preference for candidates who have some ER experience or are open to floating to the ER. Scheduling includes 12-hour shifts with weekend and holiday rotations. First-time travel nurses are welcome.
