Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) - Labor & Delivery (LDRP)
Location: Hettinger, North Dakota
Contract Length: 10 weeks
Job Overview
- Work in a rural Labor & Delivery department with approximately 30 births per year.
- Department includes 3 Labor & Delivery beds, 3 Postpartum beds, and a C-Section OR located on the first floor (not in-unit).
- RNs will float to Med-Surg about 80% of the time to take a full patient assignment if there are no laboring patients.
- Couple Care model: RNs manage both mother and baby through labor, delivery, and postpartum in the same room.
Clinical Practice Highlights
- Common patient diagnoses: Active labor, elective inductions, low-risk pregnancies (37 weeks+).
- Drips used: Pitocin and Magnesium (Magnesium only for send-outs).
- RNs are responsible for titrating drips according to policy.
- Respiratory therapy equipment available includes PRN nasal cannula during labor only.
- Monitoring is done via EFM system with paper charting; no tele/monitor techs available.
Staffing & Support
- No charge nurse; collaborative RN staff environment.
- No nurse aides or surgical techs on staff.
- OB/Neonatologist and anesthesia available with a 15-minute response time (not in-house 24/7).
Scheduling & Requirements
- Self-scheduling with managerial support available from 7 AM to 7 PM.
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend, possibly every third weekend.
- Holiday shifts required every other holiday.
- May be placed on call/standby due to low census on additional shifts.
Orientation
- Unit-specific orientation includes 1 day and 1 night shift on the unit for acclimatization and training.
- Must be able to float between 7 PM-7 AM and 7 AM-7 PM shifts on Med-Surg every other week.
- Must be able to serve as primary L&D nurse when needed.
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Current RN license.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
Additional Notes
- Scrub color is flexible; any color or pattern is acceptable. Closed-toe shoes are required.
- This is a rural facility with low birth volume, requiring flexibility and willingness to float to Med-Surg frequently.
