Job Description
Seeking an experienced traveling Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) RN for a coastal California hospital. The role involves working in a mother/baby couplet care environment with responsibilities including labor and delivery, postpartum care, circulating in the OR, and potentially scrubbing (required for night shift). The unit averages about 100 births per month and follows AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios.

- 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- 3-5 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with High Risk patients and Maternal-Fetal patients
- Advanced certifications including:
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association
- Advanced AWHONN Fetal Monitoring
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Comfortable with EPIC electronic charting system
- Comfortable circulating in the OR and scrubbing (scrubbing required for night shift)
- Experience with LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery & Postpartum) care
Work Environment & Scheduling
- 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm or 7pm-7am)
- Night shift requires scrubbing skills
- No block scheduling; travelers fill in scheduling gaps
- Weekend availability required (may be every other weekend)
- Holiday work expected
- May be placed on call for low census shifts; some shifts may be cancelled per contract terms
- No nurse aides or surgical techs on unit
- Neonatologist available on call within 30 minutes; OB hospitalist on site ~85% of the time
- No cardiac telemetry on unit
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring system: Philips
- Charge nurse/house supervisor role available (usually no patient assignments)
- Orientation: 3 shifts
Additional Notes
- Smoke-free facility; negative drug screen required including nicotine/cotinine
- Must be able to multitask and stay engaged during downtime
- Night shift has many newer nurses; travelers expected to be a resource
- Patient census fluctuates; approximately 13 L&D, postpartum, and recovery beds combined
- No first-time travelers accepted

This position is ideal for an experienced LDRP RN with strong clinical skills, prior travel experience, and comfort working independently in a busy mother/baby unit. Advanced certifications and EPIC experience are mandatory, with flexibility to float across related areas and assist in the OR. Night shift candidates must have scrubbing skills.
