Job Opportunity: NICU RN - Special Care Nursery (Level II NICU)
Location: Silverdale, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Specialty
- Special Care Nursery / NICU (Level II)
- Must have 2 years of NICU experience (Level II NICU experience required)
- Candidates with 1 year of experience may be considered if they have multiple prior travel contracts
- Prior travel experience required if less than 2 years NICU experience
Required Certifications
- BLS
- ACLS
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- STABLE
- Active Washington RN License (pending license acceptable; temp license takes ~4 weeks)
Patient Population & Care
- Care for babies with low birth weight, prematurity, respiratory and hemodynamic issues
- Patients may require Bubble CPAP, tube feeds, TPN, lipids, and other typical NICU drips
- No surgeries or ECMO cases
- Stabilization and transfer of babies below 32 weeks gestation
- Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) available 24/7
- Respiratory Therapy (RT) available 24/7 for vents, bubble CPAP, high flow; RN must have experience troubleshooting these
Skills & Experience
- Must be experienced with:
- Stabilization and attending both high and low risk deliveries
- Transitioning newborns from delivery to nursery care
- Postpartum couplet care (maternal and well newborn care) preferred but not mandatory if NICU experience is strong and candidate can attend deliveries
- Flexibility to float to Mother Baby unit if needed
Unit Details
- 10 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1 to 1:3 depending on acuity
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes assignment
- No nurse aides or patient care techs on unit
- Telemetry monitors present; RNs read their own strips
Scheduling & Shifts
- 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Days: Sat & Sun; Nights: Fri & Sat)
- Holiday rotation with permanent staff
- No call or standby requirement
- Flexible scheduling to meet department needs
Orientation & Training
- 8-hour compliance orientation with manager
- 8-hour Epic electronic health record training
- 2-3 shifts (12 hours each) of unit-specific orientation
Additional Notes
- Surgical hand scrub policy requires natural, well-manicured nails (no artificial nails or enhancements)
- Manager values open communication, adaptability, and quality work from travelers
- Scrubs provided

I was on a med onc unit so might be different culture on each unit. Travel friendly. Staff is great. Ratios were 1-5/6. Schedule was flexible. Cost of living depending on neighborhood was also good.
