Cath Lab Technologist

Location: South Charleston, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Work in a Cath Lab with 2 suites/labs performing approximately 5-10 cases per day.
Procedures include diagnostic left and right heart catheterizations, PCI, IABP, and temporary pacemaker support.
Responsibilities include scrubbing and assisting physicians, requiring knowledge of sterile technique.
Collaborate with RNs who circulate, sedate, and complete documentation.
Use Siemens software and equipment.
On-call 24/7 with a 30-minute call response time.

Schedule & Call Requirements

Five days per week; start and stop times vary based on case scheduling.
One week of on-call per four-week schedule (Monday 7 AM to following Monday 7 AM). Call may be consecutive or split.
Weekend call from Friday after hours until Monday 7 AM if not on the Monday-to-Monday call.
Rotational holiday call.
Mandatory call/standby required.
No floating required, but extra hours possible on other units if experienced.
Surgical attire provided.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 1 year of prior Cath Lab or Radiologic Tech experience. First-time travelers with good experience are acceptable.
ARRT certification required.
BLS certification required.
Radiation badge must be provided by the agency (not provided by the facility).

Orientation

General hospital orientation plus department-specific computer training.
Up to 36 hours or one week of orientation in the department.
Orientation includes four 10-hour shifts, up to 7 days of call per schedule, and 1-2 late shifts with weekends and holidays in rotation.

Additional Notes

Candidates living within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted.
Travelers cannot exceed 1 year with the system; after 1 year, a 2-year break is required before returning.
Prior employees must have been away from the system for 2 years before reapplying through an agency.
Candidates with license issues will not be accepted.

Pros

MDs are easy to work with. Staff is decent and appreciative. Not a hard schedule(8-12 day in 2 labs) straight forward cases. Fair scheduling Late days are by schedule and not on your call day(get to leave on time if on call as late team stays to finish day) and usually not too late for the late team.
