Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR)

Job Overview

• Provide professional nursing care as part of an interdisciplinary team in a Level I Trauma Center.
• Work primarily in the OR with a focus on circulating; scrub experience is desired but not required.
• Patient care involves a variety of service lines including General Surgery, Robotics, Pediatrics, Trauma, Neuro, Orthopedics (primarily trauma), Gynecology, Urology, Transplants, Plastics, ENT, and Vascular.
• Average caseload: 35-50 cases per day with turnover expectations under 20 minutes.
• Facility has 16 OR suites, routinely running 12-14 rooms, including 3 Da Vinci robotic systems and advanced neuro navigation technology.
• Weekend on-call coverage from end of shift Friday until 6:30 AM Monday.
• Floating required across multiple campuses within a 50-mile radius.

Requirements

• Minimum 2+ years current OR experience.
• Proficient circulating experience required; scrub experience preferred.
• Proficiency in General, Robotics, Pediatrics, and Trauma cases mandatory. Additional experience in Neuro, Ortho trauma, Gyn, Uro, Transplants, Plastics, ENT, and Vascular preferred.
• EPIC EMR experience within the last 3 years.
• Experience in a Level I trauma center setting.
• No first-time travelers; must have completed a travel assignment within the last 12 months.

Certifications & Licensure

• BLS (AHA) certification required.
• Valid Iowa RN license; Compact license allowed.

Work Environment & Additional Info

• 16-bed unit with patient ratios typically 1:1.
• Scrubs provided.
• Must work 2 of 3 major winter holidays (Christmas, New Year’s, Thanksgiving).
• Limited time off allowed during peak holiday periods.
• Use of advanced surgical equipment including Da Vinci robots and Stealth technology for neuro navigation.
• Call back and on-call pay applies (details not included here).

• Current work history/resume.
• Skills checklist completed within 1 year.
• License verification and copies of required certifications.
• One supervisory performance evaluation or reference from within the last 2 years.
• Proof of taxable address (one document required, e.g., driver’s license, utility bill, lease agreement).

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with strong circulating skills, recent EPIC EMR experience, and a background in Level I trauma centers who are ready for a fast-paced, diverse surgical environment.
