Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with Renal focus
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift Requirements:
- Weekend shifts required: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (combination of Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
- Floating within scope to other departments, units, and facilities may be required
- Patient Ratios: Typically 1:5; may flex to 1:6 occasionally, with travelers expected to take extra patients
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Locals: Not accepted (home address must be at least 75 miles from facility)
- Pending License: Not accepted
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days
- Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks

- Years of Experience Required: 2 years (based on renal transplant, PD catheter, hemodialysis, drains, TPN, wound care, diabetes encephalopathy, acute renal rejection, thymoglobulin administration)

Required Skills & Competencies
- Renal: Pre/Post Hemodialysis management, renal failure care, PD catheters
- Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response: Dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring, rapid response team use
- Endocrine/Metabolic: IV insulin protocols
- IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Accessing ports, blood product administration, central line and peripheral line care, PICC line management, starting IVs
- Medications: Heparin protocols, PCA
- Respiratory: Nasal cannula, oxygen face masks
- Professional Topics: Isolation precautions, wound care including wound vac
- Certifications Required: BLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Skills Preferred: Neurological/Psychiatric (CVA), surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), tracheostomy management, thymoglobulin titration
Certifications & Compliance Requirements
- Mandatory Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit
- Licensing:
- Valid Missouri RN license (Primary source verification required via NURSYS)
- No pending licenses accepted
- Background Checks:
- Criminal background check within 6 months of start (including statewide, nationwide, and international if applicable)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
- State-specific searches (Missouri EDL, Highway Patrol, Family Care Safety Registry)
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95) annually
- Immunizations and titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tdap (or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Drug testing within 1 year, must include specific panels and be valid throughout assignment
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam
- Unit-specific competency exam (updated annually)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 12 months of start (80% pass rate required)

- Dialysis: Hemodialysis is not required to be performed by unit RNs due to contracted dialysis process
- Transplant Patients: 2:1 patient ratio for first 48 hours post-transplant
