Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU-Nights)
Location: Fayetteville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) - Nights, PST shift
- Shift Options: 3/9 or 3/23 start dates only, no earlier starts
- Patient Ratios: 1:4-5
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Float Requirement: Must float within scope to meet facility needs/float between like units
- Block Scheduling: Open to accommodating
- Locals Accepted: No (50-mile radius rule from main campus)
- Pending License: Not accepted
- Guaranteed Hours: Call off policy allows 2 shifts off per 13-week assignment; after that, all contracted shifts are guaranteed
- Return Staff Policy: Must be gone for 1 year to return as a traveler
- Contract Limit: Maximum of 2 contracts (can extend once), then must be gone for 6 months before returning
Experience & Certifications
- Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years as a Registered Nurse
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Competency Exams:
- Must pass Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (annual renewal required)
- Must pass Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) with minimum 80% within 3 attempts (no exceptions)

Background & Health Requirements
- Background check required within 6 months of start (includes SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search, and international search if applicable)
- Physical exam required within 1 year, updated annually
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (titer or 2 vaccines)
- Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination)
- Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines)
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days
- Flu vaccine required year-round (exemptions allowed with facility-approved medical or religious documentation)
- COVID-19 vaccination is not required but documentation is accepted

- Must pass EKG exam (no exceptions)

- Conflict of Interest Questionnaire

- Parking Registration (if driving)
- Computer Use Acknowledgement
- Photo for badge required (passport-style, professional, no large earrings, face jewelry, unnatural hair colors, or head coverings unless for religious reasons)
- Modules must be completed prior to start (instructions provided by facility)

- Prior travel experience is not required for this position
- Candidates must be able to meet all certification and competency requirements before starting
- The unit does not accept travel pairs

Pros
Unit is traveler friendly. Higg standards for nursing care. Lots of post partum couplets to care for!
Cons
The pace on this postpartum unit is pretty frantic. Start the day with 4 couplets, discharge 2, admit 1-2. You won't ever stop moving. Drinks only allowed at the "hydration station" and food only in the break room. This was in 2021 so things may have changed.
