Job Opportunity: Hospice Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Description

  • Provide hospice care to patients and support caregivers in their residences, including homes, assisted living, or skilled nursing facilities within Baltimore County and Baltimore City sub-territories.
  • Travel to patient locations is required.
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Evaluating patients for continued hospice eligibility
    • Conducting comprehensive head-to-toe assessments
    • Monitoring and assessing symptoms, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to maximize patient comfort
    • Setting and assisting with end-of-life goals for patients and families, involving other disciplines as needed
    • Educating and empowering caregivers on end-of-life treatments and interventions
    • Preparing for case conferences every 14 days and attending weekly interdisciplinary team meetings
    • Ordering medical supplies and medication refills
    • Creating and updating plans of care for hospice aides and supervising their work

Required Experience

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations including:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if negative
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if negative
    • Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
  • Respirator fit testing (for clinical staff) with annual renewal for Aya candidates.
  • Completion of facility-specific policies and acknowledgments (e.g., floating policy, time and attendance).
  • Competency exams as applicable (medication, dysrhythmia/EKG).
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG/medication as required by unit.

Additional Requirements

  • References: 2 professional references within 2 years of start (for travel assignments).
  • Employment application and work history verification for at least 2 employers within the last 7 years.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required.
  • Consent to release information and other facility-specific documents must be completed prior to start.

Travel & Location Notes

  • Position covers multiple areas within Baltimore County and Baltimore City to minimize travel time between patient visits.
