Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of nursing experience
- Licensure: North Carolina (NC) or Compact nursing license in hand
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (First-timers are welcome)
- Work Schedule:
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating required
- Local Candidates: Accepted within 75 miles
Orientation & Training
- Orientation sessions held bi-weekly
- Flu vaccination is mandatory; no exemptions or declinations accepted
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, international searches (if applicable), education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC sanctions list search
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with specific protocols for positive history)
- Immunizations required:
- Flu vaccine (seasonal, mandatory)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (vaccines or positive titers, no exemptions)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Polio vaccine or attestation
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (no instant tests)
- Two professional references from employment within last 12 months (one must be a supervisor)
- Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)
Additional Notes
- Candidates must set up a Duke Guest Account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems
- Competency exams and unit-specific training required
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training provided during orientation (valid for 2 years)
- Pass/fail testing on EKG/medication knowledge during orientation (not required for RRTs)
- All required documents must be current and compliant with Duke Health policies
