- Shift Requirements:
- Weekend shifts every other weekend (may require consecutive weekends based on operational needs)
- Guaranteed hours:
- 8 and 10 hour shifts totaling 40 hours/week
- 3 twelve-hour shifts totaling 36 hours/week
- 4 twelve-hour shifts totaling 48 hours/week
- Ratios: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
- On-Call: Not required
- Floating: Required to float within scope to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) at University and Methodist Hospitals; refusal to float may result in contract termination
- Block Schedule: To be discussed
- Locals: Not accepted
- License: Must have Indiana state license and required certifications in hand before starting (pending licenses not accepted)
- Holiday Work: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Unit Information: Post-operative care including Urology, GYN, GI, Orthopedics, and some pre-op patients
- Special Requirements:
- Level 1 Trauma certification required
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Fast-paced environment; must be able to "hit the ground running"
- Charge Nurse: May be required to cover charge nurse duties with training and resources provided

Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted (required for all candidates)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA only
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy) - as applicable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - as applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification - as applicable
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA)
- State License Verification (Indiana) within 30 days before start
Required Competencies and Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (not required for Techs or RRTs)
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent, minimum 100% score)
- Unit Competency Exam
Health and Background Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background Check within 90 days of start, including:
- 7 years residence/work history
- SSN Trace
- County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
- Education Verification
- International search if lived/worked outside US in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Physical Exam within 12 months of start
- Fit Mask Test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
- Immunizations and Titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 season (no declinations accepted)
- Drug Testing: Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
- TB Questionnaire updated annually
Documentation and History
- Minimum 2 professional references from recent employment within 2 years, with titles including charge, manager, supervisor, or above
- Current Employment Application with explanation for any gaps of 30+ days
- Skills Checklist completed within 12 months and annually
- Application must cover 7 years of history with all gaps accounted for
Additional Notes
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RN travelers to work at their facilities after 11/30/2024, except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
- Call-in shifts must be made up or added to the end of the contract depending on FTE status
- Mandatory completion of IU Health-specific orientation modules and facility-specific forms prior to start
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of medical-surgical experience, comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, and willing to float across multiple care levels. Prior travel experience is not required, and first-time travelers are welcome.
