Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Los Angeles, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Specialty & Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (highest required)
  • Additional Experience: Must have cardiovascular experience, including open heart and balloon pump experience
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; accepts first-time travelers

Unit & Patient Population

  • Unit Details:
    • Average Census: 24
    • Rooms/Beds: 28
    • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
    • Every other weekend coverage required
    • No call requirement
    • Self-scheduling
  • Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics

Required Skills

  • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • IV insulin protocols
  • Arterial line management
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line care/management
  • PICC line management
  • Starting IVs
  • Care of ventilated patients
  • Interpretation of ABGs
  • Suctioning

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • VIP, MAB, or CPI certification with an in-person physical component (must be completed within 90 days of start if not on file at start)
  • Fire Card specific to Los Angeles (2-week grace period allowed after start if not obtained prior)

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (advanced level, single attempt only)
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score 80%)
  • Competency Exam as applicable to profession
  • Fetal Monitoring Competency Exam (for L&D RNs, updated annually)
  • Harassment Prevention Training (1 hour CA training for non-supervisory RNs)

Health & Background Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start, confirming fitness for duty and free of communicable disease
  • Negative 7-panel drug test within 30 days of start (instant acceptable, marijuana excluded)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (3-dose series, positive titer, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
  • COVID vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)

Additional Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Emergency contact form prior to start
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history and federal exclusions (updated monthly)
  • Education verification of highest level completed
  • State nursing license verification within 14 days prior to start
  • Photo for badge with white background (not required for per diem)
  • Facility-specific onboarding modules to be completed before or on the first day of assignment
  • References: 2 professional references from manager or above, validated within 2 years
  • Employment application/resume with at least 1 year of relevant experience and 7 years of work history if applicable
  • Skills checklist updated annually (not required for non-licensed workers)

Scheduling & Time Off

  • No RTO (request time off) allowed during the first two weeks of assignment
  • Once RTO is submitted, it cannot be changed except to cancel time off
  • Ensure all time off is confirmed for the full 13-week contract before submission
