Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Modesto, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Accountable for assessment, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care in an acute patient setting.
  • Provide direct patient care, patient/family education, and manage transitions of care.
  • Deliver holistic, individualized care considering psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic, and lifestyle factors.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare providers through effective communication.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, industry standards, best practices, and applicable laws to promote optimal patient experience.

Shift & Schedule

  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3 x 12)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other Saturday and Sunday; holidays as needed
  • Note: No Return to Office (RTO) approved on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day

Requirements

  • Licensure: California Registered Nurse (CA RN) license
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – must be current within 180 days of hire
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – must be current within 180 days of hire
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) – must be current within 90 days

Background Checks & Verifications

  • 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including:
    • Social Security trace with all aliases
    • County searches for last 7 years of residence/work/school
    • Nationwide sex offender search within 90 days of start
    • Education verification (highest level achieved; BSN preferred)
    • FACIS Level 3 screening within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks, updated annually
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (must clear candidate for work)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (exceptions apply)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days, renewed annually
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B series or signed declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30) or signed declination
  • Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start

Competency & Skills

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Unit-specific skills checklist, renewed annually
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required depending on unit
  • Pass/fail testing (e.g., EKG/medication) may be required for ICU RNs at certain locations

Documentation & Compliance

  • Must review and sign facility-specific documents prior to start, including:
    • Job description
    • Standards of business conduct
    • Vendor training and code of conduct (2024 and 2025 versions)
    • Overpayment refund policy
    • Regulatory orientation for contracted workers
    • Dress code policy
    • Conditional offer of employment attestation
    • Religious accommodation forms if applicable
    • TB screening questionnaire within 90 days of start, renewed annually
    • Epic questionnaire (for RNs starting 11/3/2025 and onward)

Additional Notes

  • Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps
  • References: 2 professional references required for clinical/allied/per diem acute care; 1 for per diem non-acute care (Aya requirement only)
  • Pending background check attestations are generally not accepted for this facility
  • Candidates with religious exemptions for vaccines or facial hair must complete specific exemption forms and receive approval
