Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU (Monroe, Michigan)

Position Details

• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 7:15)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Unit: Mixed unit including PCU, Med Surg/Telemetry, and Med Surg
• Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics
• Patient Diagnoses: COVID, Stroke, NSTEMI, Chest Pain, AKI, Pneumonia, COPD exacerbation, CHF exacerbation, Cellulitis, Altered Mental Status
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-5
• Float Requirements: Must float within scope to ICU, ER, Behavioral Health, and other areas as needed
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday, day and night shifts)
• Scheduling: No block scheduling; weekend shifts required every other weekend (12 weekend shifts per contract)
• Locals: Not accepted within 50 miles radius
• Call Off Policy: Strictly enforced
• Pre-Approved Time Off: 2 requests per contract

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with PCU experience within the last year
• Current ACLS certification
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic medical records system

Health and Safety Requirements

• Physical Exam: Physician statement within last 12 months; latex-free PPE available
• Fit Test: N95 fit test required within 12 months of start; must be updated annually; onsite exceptions possible with approval
• Immunizations:

  • Tdap within 10 years or TD within 10 years if proof of prior Tdap; declination accepted
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 3 months; annual update required; chest x-ray if history of positive TB
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or approved medical/religious exemption required
  • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or approved medical/religious exemption required
  • Hepatitis B: Series, positive titer, or declination accepted
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccine or approved exemption required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); declinations not accepted during flu season
• Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months; instant acceptable unless on prescription medications

• Facility Type: Short-term Acute Care, Level 1 Trauma Center
• Beds: 25 staffed beds
• Charting System: EPIC electronic medical records
• Medication System: Pyxis
• Special Equipment: Safe patient handling equipment
• Cardiac Monitoring: Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
• Nursing Model: Pilot Team Nursing Model (RN and LPN for 6 patients)
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs

Additional Notes

• Floating: Assignments will be appropriate to experience and scope of practice
• On-Call: Not required
• Travel Experience: First-time travelers accepted if they have more than 3 years of experience
• Time Off Restrictions: Requests for time off greater than 7 days require management approval
• Background Check Notes: Canadian candidates must have SSN issued prior to start for credentialing

This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with mixed medical-surgical and telemetry patient care, flexible with floating to various units, and able to work night shifts with weekend coverage every other week.
