Operating Room Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Overview
- Seeking a Registered Nurse with Level 1 experience desired and minimum 3 years recent OR experience.
- Must be proficient in multiple specialty areas including Total Joints, Orthopedic Spine, Gynecology, and Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted.
- Shift: Day shift, 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM).
- Call policy:
- Weekday call from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM with 40-minute response time.
- Weekend call from 7:00 AM Saturday through 7:00 AM Monday.
- Rotating call schedule with 2-3 weekday calls in the first 6 weeks, then weekend calls in the next 6 weeks.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky.
- Minimum of 3 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience in OB/GYN nursing.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years recent experience in Operating Room nursing.
- Experience in Total Joints, Orthopedic Spine, Gynecology, and MIS required.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
Compliance and Background Requirements
- Background checks including:
- County and national criminal background checks (last 7 years).
- Sex offender search.
- Education verification or signed official transcript/diploma.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG exclusion checks.
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific drug panels required).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, or PA confirming good health and ability to perform job duties.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types accepted).
- Immunizations and health screenings required and must be current:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray with annual questionnaire if history positive.
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination with booster if needed.
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination (renewed annually).
- Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination with booster if needed.
- Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required annually (medical/religious exemptions accepted).
- COVID vaccination series or medical/religious exemption required; booster preferred but not mandatory.
Competency and Skills Verification
- Must complete and maintain current competency exams including:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam.
- Unit-specific competency exams.
- Core Parts I, II, and III competency exams.
- Conscious sedation competency exam (if applicable).
- RN Math Ability competency exam annually.
- Color blind testing within 1 year.
- Pass/Fail testing for EKG/Dysrhythmia required for certain units; must pass within two attempts or risk cancellation.
- Skills checklists must be current and renewed annually.
Documentation and History
- Employment verification for the past 7 years required.
- Two supervisor references verified within 6 months of start, preferably managers or direct supervisors.
- Employment application must explain any gaps longer than 30 days.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must review and sign facility-specific policies including confidentiality, acceptable use, electronic communications, and password policies prior to start.
- All required documents must be current and not expire during the assignment; renewals must be completed prior to clearance.
- Candidates must be prepared to comply with all facility-specific onboarding and testing requirements.
