ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work as a Critical Care Float Pool RN covering weekend day shifts with flexibility to float to various ICUs based on staffing and patient acuity.
- Units include Neuro ICU, Surgical ICUs, Medical ICUs (MICU x2), Cardiology/Diagnostics, CVICU, SICU, MICU, and NCCU.
- Float policy requires floating within units of equivalent or lower acuity.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Minimum 2 years of Critical Care Float experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system.
- Ventilator management experience.
- Experience working in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Background and Credentialing Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881).
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- State license verification within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS verification required for RN license.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exams.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start (with remediation process if failed).
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or annual TB questionnaire.
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Measles (Rubeola) – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer.
- Mumps – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer.
- Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer.
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation).
- Hepatitis B – Titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted).
- Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) – Adult dose required; exemptions not allowed if working with infants or pregnant patients.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending results).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.
- Annual fit mask testing required for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 and beyond.
Orientation and Compliance
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement required.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually.
- Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required for all candidates.
Additional Information
- Parking options available for travelers (costs and details subject to change).
- Fingerprinting results and background checks are time-sensitive and must be completed prior to or shortly after start date.
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.
This position offers a dynamic ICU float pool experience across multiple critical care units with night shifts and requires strong critical care skills, certifications, and compliance with extensive credentialing and health requirements.
