Registered Nurse – Acute Care Float Pool
Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Float pool RN position covering multiple acute care units including Medical-Surgical, BMT, Oncology, Cardiac Surgery, Telemetry, Neuro, Rehab, Transplant, Short Stay, and boarding units.
- Float to various units such as ED, PACU, ICU, and other boarding areas.
- Dayshift may require changing units up to 3 times during a 12-hour shift.
- Shift options:
- Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (3 shifts, 12 hours each)
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3 shifts, 12 hours each)
- Patient ratios:
- Days: 1 nurse to 3-4 patients
- Nights: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
- Weekend work required on an as-needed basis.
- No call responsibilities.
- Locals accepted.
- Pending license accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Washington
- Minimum 3 years of telemetry experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pumps
- Experience managing epidural medications, including Ketamine epidural management
Orientation & Training
- Orientation includes exposure to 5 different units over 3 twelve-hour shifts.
- Required competencies include medication/pharmacology exams, dysrhythmia/EKG competency, and others as per unit job descriptions.
- EPIC electronic health record system used for charting.
- Scrubs provided for OR personnel; any scrub color acceptable.
Scheduling & Time Off
- Aim to keep return-to-office (RTO) days to a minimum (6 days off) to maximize scheduling flexibility.
- Stricter RTO limits during peak summer and winter holiday periods.
- In low census situations, providers may be called off without charge or placed on-call in 4-hour increments up to one shift within a 2-week cycle.
- Block scheduling accommodations generally not available unless otherwise stated.

Required Background & Compliance Checks
- 7-year criminal background check required within 45 days of start.
- Must run checks on current and former legal names and known aliases.
- Education verification required; diploma/transcript acceptable for RNs.
- Various federal and state background checks including EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, sex offender search, and state-specific searches.
Required Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (AHA only) mandatory.
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification, and other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (refer to unit job descriptions).
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam with minimum 80% in dosage calculations required.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for acute care float pool and critical care units.
- Conscious sedation competency exam required for GI Lab/Endo RNs.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam signed by a physician within 1 year of start (required by agency).
- Fit mask test required within 9-12 months of start; specific mask types accepted (3M N95 models preferred).
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or documented declination.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes; positive TB requires additional documentation.
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; declination process available.
- Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccine series and positive titer or signed declination required.
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; history of disease not accepted.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical exemption/declination required during flu season (September–April).
- COVID vaccination or declination required for tracking purposes.
- 10-panel drug screen within one year of start (required by agency).
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge (DMV style, no selfies) due Monday prior to start.
- Completion of department checklist and PCIS agreement prior to start.
- Suicide prevention training required for multi-state licensed nurses working in Washington.
- EPIC/Alaris integration video and attestation required before starting.
- WA license complaint clearance required for all using a Washington State license.
- Umbilical cord blood collection training required for Labor & Delivery RNs.
Notes
- Travelers will float to all acute care units, rehab, and boarding areas but not to sister hospitals.
- High acuity patients with complex needs including gynecology, urology, and oncology may be dispersed throughout the hospital.
- Performance evaluations requested at assignment end (facility-specific).
- Radiation badges no longer provided by agency for new candidates; must be supplied by facility if needed.
This position is ideal for experienced acute care RNs comfortable with floating across multiple units in a high-acuity, teaching hospital environment.
