ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Request Time Off (RTO): Maximum 5 days total; no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
  • Floating: Mandatory floating within ICU units (Burn ICU, CCU, Medical ICU, SICU, Neuro ICU) and possibly to Medical-Surgical units as needed
  • Orientation: First week orientation and precepting on day shift

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

  • Scrub color: Any color allowed

Additional Requirements & Compliance

  • Must live within 75 miles of the facility (local candidates preferred)
  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including aliases
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year; medical or religious exemptions require approval for onsite PAPR use
  • Immunizations and screenings required:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
    • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months; PPDs not accepted after 12/15/2025
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if low titer
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if low titer
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – May 4)
  • Completion of PromisePoint EMR training modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)

Competency Exams (Required for Start Dates On/After April 14, 2024)

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (valid within 12 months)
  • General Competency Exam (valid within 12 months)
  • Color Blind Testing (valid within 12 months)

Notes

  • No pending licenses accepted
  • References follow state requirements for RNs
  • Employment application and skills checklist required annually
  • This is a mandatory float facility; flexibility to work across multiple ICU units is essential
