Registered Nurse – Stepdown / Immediate Care Unit

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (possible extension)
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), weekdays and some weekends
Patient Ratio: Typically 1:4, may flex to 1:5 in emergencies

Unit & Patient Info

• Stepdown unit with patients similar to Progressive Care or Telemetry in larger facilities
• Varying patient acuity
• Must be able to read cardiac strips

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Current ACLS certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Ability to read cardiac strips

Schedule & Time Off

• Limit requests for time off during major holidays to no more than 2 of the 4 major holidays
• Weekend block schedules considered only for Fri-Sun or Sat-Mon

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during work hours)
• Proof of E-Verify or attestation
• Background check: 7-year criminal history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks (updated annually or with contract renewal)
• Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands, updated annually
• Drug screen: 10-panel within 30 days of start, updated annually
• Immunizations and health screenings:

  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD within 1 year or equivalent) or chest X-ray if history positive
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years (preferred)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella titers or vaccinations within 2 years (declinations accepted if signed)
  • Hepatitis B titer, 3-series vaccine, or declination
  • Varicella titer or vaccinations within 2 years (declinations accepted if signed)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 13 – Apr 1)
  • COVID vaccine or declination required
• Stroke education: 8 CEU hours annually, including NIH Stroke Certification (must be current and on file before start)
• Color blindness testing required
• Competency exams and core training modules as applicable
• Facility-specific learning modules and Cerner training must be completed prior to orientation
• ReadySet (RS) health assessment surveys must be completed by facility deadlines
• Photo for badge required prior to clearance
• Confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements must be completed prior to start
• Parking pass application required prior to start

• Candidate profile including work history
• Specialty-specific skills checklist (updated annually)
• Minimum 2 clinical or charge nurse references within past 2 years
• RN license verification (recently pulled)
• Copies of all required certifications included in submission packet

Additional Notes

• Scrubs are not provided; dress code includes burgundy and/or white scrubs
• Blocked weekend schedules may be accommodated (Fri-Sun or Sat-Mon)
• Orientation and training modules are tracked by the facility’s educational team; candidates must complete all assigned modules before starting
• Workers compensation documentation is preferred but not required
