Behavioral Health Tech - Travel/Contract
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Facility Type: Pediatric Psychiatric Hospital (Magnet)
Beds: 46 staffed beds
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Job Overview
- Work in an acute inpatient child and adolescent psychiatric unit caring for patients ages 3-18.
- Average daily census: 30 patients
- Staffing ratio: 1:4 during day/weekend shifts, 1:6 at night
- Nursing teams (RNs and Behavioral Health Techs) onsite 24/7; physicians and therapists onsite during business hours
- Floating within service line as needed
- Weekend rotation required
- Holiday work required if it falls on scheduled days
- Block scheduling not accommodated
- Local candidates not accepted; home address must be at least 75 miles from facility
- No pending state license accepted
- Maximum return-to-office (RTO) restriction: no more than 7 days
- Guaranteed minimum: 3 shifts per 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of Electrophysiology Technician experience within the last year
- Behavioral Health Technician experience
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required; will be provided if needed
- MANDT or CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) required; MANDT can be provided if needed

- Pediatric psychiatric hospital with Magnet designation
- Charting system: EPIC
- Scrub colors: Techs wear pewter gray
- Free parking available
- Onsite pediatricians, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, RNs, and Behavioral Health Techs
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Must complete Missouri MOVECHS background check process (minimum 3 weeks, multi-step, requires candidate responsiveness)
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, and international searches if applicable
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Fingerprinting required for Illinois long-term care or rehab float assignments
- Education verification of highest related education required before start
- State-specific background checks and exclusions required for Missouri and Illinois placements
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including multiple substances, must remain valid throughout assignment
- Physical exam within 1 year of start required
- Fit mask (N95) testing required and can be completed onsite
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap vaccine or declination
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption during flu season
- Annual compliance documents and training modules required, including HIPAA, hand hygiene, dress code, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance education
- Skills checklist and unit-specific competency exams required within 1 year of start
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be responsive and complete all required documentation promptly to avoid cancellation or delayed start
- Must upload required documentation such as photo badge, employment application, and various facility-specific forms prior to start
- No on-call requirement
- No floating to sister facilities outside service line
- Candidates must adhere to facility policies including fingernail and dress code policies
